Have Your Say on the Bakerloo Line Extension

06 October 2014
Bakerloo line Southwark Labour councillors are calling on residents to add their voice to the public consultation on extending the Bakerloo line into the south of the borough.

Labour is backing proposals for a two-route branch via the Old Kent Road, and Camberwell and Peckham. Last year Labour Leader Cllr Peter John secured a commitment from the Mayor of London to extend the Bakerloo line into Camberwell and Peckham. Labour also supports the extension of the tube to the Old Kent Road, which has been designated as an opportunity area and is desperately in need of better public transport links.

Southwark Labour has welcomed the launch of a consultation by the Mayor and TfL on the extending the Bakerloo Line. Labour councillors are encouraging residents to get involved and have their say on the tube. You can see the consultation and reply to it here:

Cllr Mark Williams, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“It’s great that within a year we’ve gone from no one believing that the Bakerloo line extension could happen, to the Mayor backing calls from Southwark Labour to extend the route south of Elephant and Castle.

“Southwark Labour fully supports both routes of the Bakerloo line extension - via the Old Kent Road, and Camberwell and Peckham – to significantly improve public transport in the borough. Both areas are currently under-served and in need of additional investment.

“It’s great to see so many people now joining our campaign – we hope the Mayor will get fully on board and we would encourage as many people as possible to add their voice to this campaign by taking part in the consultation."
