Labour’s Helen Dennis wins Chaucer ward by-election

13 May 2015
Helen Dennis Labour's Helen Dennis has been elected as a Southwark councillor in the Chaucer ward by-election.

Helen received 2,951 votes in the Chaucer by-election, gaining a majority of over 1,400 votes. Helen, who has lived in Southwark for over a decade, was selected as Labour’s council candidate for the by-election after Labour councillor Claire Maugham decided to step down from the council earlier this year.

Helen is a local anti-poverty and international development campaigner, who has been actively involved in her community and has supported Robes and Food Bank and helped lead a small church in Peckham.

Cllr Helen Dennis said: “It is a real privilege to have been elected as councillor in Chaucer ward. I will work hard with Neil Coyle MP and my fellow ward councillors for a fairer future for all in Borough and Elephant & Castle. We’ll fight for the services residents need and challenge the new Tory government and its harmful plans for our community.”
