Catherine Rose to stand as Labour candidate in College

06 April 2016
Catherine Rose Members in College ward have selected local campaigner Catherine Rose to stand as the Labour candidate in the College by-election.

Residents in College will vote for a new councillor to replace Helen Hayes MP, who has decided to stand down from her council seat to focus on her parliamentary work for Dulwich and West Norwood. A by-election will be held in College ward on 5 May, the same day as the London Mayoral and Assembly elections.

Catherine Rose has considerable experience of community engagement after 15 years working in the public sector, but she is most proud of her recent role, as the voluntary Chair of a parent led campaign for more secondary school places for East Dulwich. Catherine was also spokesperson for the Southwark SPACE campaign, which helped secure a new large secondary school on the site of the former Dulwich Hospital.

Catherine currently works as a caseworker, dealing with a range of issues facing College residents, and she is Chair of St John's and St Clement's Primary School PTFA. Catherine has a ten year old son and has lived close to Goose Green since 1999.

Catherine said: “I am delighted to have been selected as Labour candidate in College ward. I am passionate about delivering improvements for local residents and I hope to bring the knowledge and experience I have gained campaigning for school places in my area to support parents and carers of children in College Ward.”
