Over 100 new council homes to be delivered this summer

26 July 2016
11,000 new council homes Over 100 new council homes will be completed in the next few months in Southwark. These new homes will bring Southwark Labour one step closer to delivering its flagship manifesto commitment to build 11,000 new council homes in the borough, with the first 1,500 completed by 2018.

113 new council homes will be built in seven sites across the borough. These homes are mostly 2, 3 or 4-bedroom family homes, alongside shared ownership and Extra Care homes, specifically designed to help older and more vulnerable people live independently for longer.

Cllr Mark Williams, Southwark Labour’s regeneration and new homes spokesperson, said: "The Tory Government is overseeing the biggest housing crisis this country has faced for generations, with too many people struggling to find somewhere affordable to live. Southwark Labour is committed to tackling the housing crisis head-on, through our ground-breaking programme to building 11,000 new council homes of the highest quality.

“We have already built 159 new council homes and over 100 more homes will be delivered this summer. Building work is also due to start on over 500 more council homes by March. We are committed to delivering new homes of all types for our residents and we continue to identify new sites and consult with local residents on what kind of new homes are needed locally.”
