Free swim and gym for all Southwark residents

29 July 2016
Free swim & gym Southwark Labour has delivered a key manifesto pledge with the launch of free swimming and gym use for all residents in the borough.

The programme, which launched today, gives residents access to swimming pools and gyms at all council leisure centres for free all day Fridays, as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Cllr Maisie Anderson, Southwark’s cabinet member for public health, parks and leisure, said, “I am delighted to be launching this unique and exciting scheme, offering free swimming and gym to all residents in the borough. We made this manifesto commitment to ensure that cost is not a barrier to people in the borough leading healthy and active lives, and I am immensely proud to be delivering our promise this week.

“It has been a challenge to deliver this promise in the face of rising government cuts and at a time when many councils are having to scale back on services, Southwark remains ambitious for our residents. I hope that this scheme will be the kick start many people need to get active.”
