Lib Dem-run Southwark Council has published its annual spending plans in a budget that Southwark Labour councillors have dubbed ‘do-nothing’.
Southwark Labour’s resources spokesperson Cllr Richard Livingstone said:
“On all of the big issues facing this borough, this budget prooves the Lib Dems have got no answers and no ideas.
“We have the sixth worst recycling rate in the country, but the Lib Dems only answer is to cut £80,000 from the environmental education budget.
“Almost one in ten people in Southwark don’t pay council tax, but the Lib Dems don’t think improving tax collection is a priority for investment.
“Southwark is faced with a social care crisis, but the Lib Dems only answer is to cut the number of places in sheltered accommodation.
“Our borough has a youth services that fails young people, but the Lib Dems only answer is to take more money out of that budget.
“This is a do-nothing budget where the worst off pay the price for Lib Dem incompetence. The administration is treading water when what’s needed is urgent action.”
