Lib Dems throw away £20 notes on random rubbish rewards

Lib Dem wasteSouthwark’s Lib Dem/Tory coalition are giving away £20 notes at random to residents ‘who use their bin properly’. The move follows two tough years of cuts, closures and price hikes to frontline services in successive budgets which the administration justified through pleas of poverty. In that time the council’s childcare services have been brutally slashed, the Livesey Children’s museum closed down entirely and fees for meals on wheels hiked by almost 50%.

Southwark Labour’s environment and transport spokesperson Cllr Barrie Hargrove said:

“If the Lib Dems have got money to splash around and they really want to encourage people to dispose of their litter properly then they ought to start by putting more bins on the pavements. It might not grab headlines, but it would work.”
